We, too, have tried the crying it out thing and after four hours of screaming also caved. Every once and a while she'll be really nice to us and sleep for a seven hour stretch - but we still wake up and wonder if she's okay. She's down to waking up at least twice a night, so it was slowly improved for us; unless she's teething and then it's up all night. Plus one of us has to sleep with her for most of the night.
